The Community Energy Storage System was a groundbreaking system for enhancing energy resilience and sustainability in one of the densely populated urban communities in Singapore. The work was carried out by installing one 60MW/120MWh battery storage system, which can store excess energy generated from each different renewable source, such as solar and wind. This energy storage marked a huge milestone toward a stable and reliable energy supply to the community in those periods when needed and when it is not possible to generate with renewable sources. Based on large-scale advanced lithium-ion battery technology, this project offers efficiency in energy management, with reduced reliance on the grid and minimum carbon emissions. The project helped the community move further toward sustainable living by providing 150,000 MWh of energy generation in a year.
Material procurement for the project was thus selected based on a highly reliable and up-to-date technology that would ensure long-term sustainability and efficiency. We worked closely with popular battery manufacturers and renewable energy experts to provide a solution that meets community needs and is in line with environmental goals.
The project of the Community Energy Storage System was completed in June 2024, with a fully integrated and operational system. It has been able to meet its goals of energy storage and carbon savings, thus providing the community with a reliable and sustainable energy solution. The public and private sectors also began to take notice of this project, setting it as a new benchmark for community-based renewable energy storage in Singapore. This has already translated into increased energy security for residents, with lower costs of electricity, and a significant reduction in their carbon footprint. The investment represents one of the major steps to be taken in order to create energy-resilient communities and is a model for future energy storage projects of this type, both nationally and internationally.
